If I copy a connection object then paste it, it would add convenience to set focus to the pasted item. The next step is typically to rename the object, so this focus saves a step. It's been my experience with other products that this is standard practice.
You MIGHT consider giving the pasted object a unique name - like "originalobjectname (copy)" - this is typical behavior in most products. People may have use-cases for keeping the same name, but I struggle to come up with one. Anyone who prefers the current behavior certainly should chime in to help with the decision.
