hi All
I have been using ASG remote desktop manager since 2012.
Recently upgraded to ASG 2018 (11.0.5988.1)
I have got a file-based connection/password storage with about 300 connections.
Recently, the response from the software has been particularly slow, especially:
- Adding new connections to the softwarae
- Trying to open existing connections (e.g. SSH, RDP) etc.
The problem does not exist with the new installation of ASG with empty file storing connections.
I already tried data optimiser with no help.

If you are using a file as data source please check if you have activated the logs (Settings=>Logs) - you should always limit the logs or turn it off, or delete it manually if not needed - but all the log data is stored in the local file and if it is huge it will take some time to save the data to the file… if that's not the problem please let me know

I do not really have logging setup, it is setup by defaults for 30 days.

Yes but if you have a lot of changes and have activated change log it could be a lot of data that is saved in your file - have a look at the file size of your settings-file - you can see the location of your current environment file in Components Check. Perhaps you try to delete all your log data and see if it make a difference?!?

I have purged all the logs from 2014.
My settings.xml file is 2.5M in size.
The issue still persists.
However, if I start the environmnent with the new settings.xml file the speed is much faster and the connections open up instantenously.
I have deleted that file and re-imported the connections using the CSV data / export.
That made the opening faster but there is still a delay of about 2s until the sesion is opened (as opposed to PuTTy) and there are no credentials imported.

You can try "Administration=>Data Optimizer" - if you upgraded your settings from an old version this can have some impact - please try and let me know

How slow it is? When you open a connection, at startup, …? Where do you see really bad performance?

Hi,
If I bought a license for ASG RD 2018 patch3 in June 2018, can I use it for the new version ASG RD 2018 patch6

~6s to open a simple ssh session and about 3s to close it.
Putty alone takes no time whatsoever for that to happen to the same ssh machine <1s

Ok that's not ok - I will be on vacation for the next week - we will work on this issue right after that.
One more question - is your file on a local disk or do you use a network drive for storing your data file - because the time lack can only result in read/write from/to the file. But currently I do not understand what's going on...

Flat local disk file, I have got an X1 carbon with SSD and it is very quick.
As indicated below a new empty file is much quicker when there is only one connection so perhaps there is some optimisation that could be done?
Enjoy your holiday! and thank you Oliver.

Thanks - yes great holidays and a lot of work afterwards :-)
Which kind of encryption do you use for your local file? When you create a new one you can choose to encrypt the whole file or only to encrypt your password settings - whole file could make the difference because the whole data of the file must be first encrypted before changes could be written back to the file.

Glad you had great holidays
I have got 'Standard encryption' set.
How do i check if the entire file is encrypted or not?

Environment=>Encryption Type=> your selection
If you have Standard encryption only your passwords are encrypted and not the whole content of your file - so this couldn't be the reason.
Can you check your Windows Application Event Log? Are there any entries regarding ASGRD? How long does it take to save some changes like Connection Properties of any object? Takes that also some seconds or not?

No specific logs related to ASG.
I have cleared all the windows logs and it seems to have improved the sitatuion a little bit. Now i can open ssh session in under 5s (still long time)
Closing the tab takes about 3s.
To save the changes to the connection object takes about 2-3s as well.
Again, when there is a new installation of ASG connection manager with no profiles in it, the changes and opening ssh sessions is instantenous.

I created a local file environment and copied some bigger folders - my file is now 7MB - and I use "Environment encryption" - but it takes less than 1 second to connect to a server - save an object perhaps 1 sec
I would like to tell you what causes the delay but currently I have no idea - I will think about it perhaps I will find anything else

Do you have any Anti-Virus Program running on your PC? Perhaps that slow down the file access?!? The data is cached in memory after first loading - so there should no big time lack when connecting a server - but there is always some data that is saved like connection history, last opened connections and so on - and when save of properties takes 2-3 seconds something on your PC slow down the process of writing your settings file to the disk
