Support of Always On Availability Cluster
#1
We are in the process of migrating our ASG DB's to an AON Cluster with availability groups. I found an old post regarding the use of a Listener and how ASG deals with this.
My question is as follows:

Is there no way that you can specify the name of the AON listener in the Server connection panel, if not then would the IP address of the Listener work?
Thanks in advance
Mark

I have no AON cluster for testing - but I think the name/ip of the listener should work in the same way as a normal SQL server - that's the way AON-Clusters should work...

After numerous tests the only way that I can get it to work is by using the actual Servername (A123456A.xxx.admin.xx) or the IP address linked to that Servername, it doesnt work with the Listener (A123456V.xxx.admin.xx)  or with the IP address of the Listener.
I assume if I configure the connection using the primary and Secondery Servernames then ASG will detect which node is currently active and use the database that is currently on the primary node

I found the following post - perhaps you need the prefix like there

This is not documented anywhere that I could find, but I had to use the name of the availability group listener on the cluster. For example:
data-source=tcp:AG1-Listener

data-source is the server/instance name of the connection string
