ASG 2019 p3 - Error on restoring docking layout
#1
Hello,
I have a user that only if they had connections open when they closed asg that are trying to be reopened get "Error on restoring docking layout  Object reference not sent to an instance of an object" dialog box and then are dropped on to an overview tab.  The app continues to open and all of the tabs come back but they are not functional.  IF they close all the tab they can use the application as usual.  If there are no open windows when closeing ASG the erro does not come on launch.  I have already wiped their "%appdata%\asg\12" folder as well as tried the Tools -> reset layout option a few different times.

User does not recall issue arising prior to p3.

I also found another forum post with a SQL query to remove the DB side layout for a given user, but it appears the table layout has changed significantly since that time.  I think that post was in the 2015 era.

Hi Aaron,

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. What kind of connections are affected ? Always the same type and target ? All rdp or others as well ? Do you use saved credentials and do you use the "layout" feature ? because that seems to have an issue - I need to check that again. Installed multiple p3 versions and used it with RD Gateway and without GW without any issue restoring 7 open tabs after restart. Settings activated: "Automatically disconnect active dessions when ending the program without prompt" & "restore disconnected sessions on program start" & "on reconnect use assigned creds" & "restore sessions without prompt".
Best regards,
Michael

I used RDP, ssh and telnet mostly.  Telnet is not used enough that I have noticed it but I have had the issue with both RDP and SSH.  I do use saved credentials.  Not really sure about the Layout feature, found that name under settings it looks like I do have the show colored tabs box checked.  I'll undo that and see if it improves.

It's seems to be a timing issue - if not all ActiveX controls are destroyed correctly it runs into that error - we can reproduce - and we implement a short "delay" to prevent this error with the next patch

Finally got through procurment on our license renewal.  Just updated to 2019 patch 4 and this issue is still present.  was that fix not going to make it in until patch 5?

We thought we found and fixed that issue - but seems to not be…

Are there any details in error log you can post? If we have another idea what exactly is causing the issue we can try to give you a private fix for that...

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

We have implemented some more code to prevent this issue - I will see if there is a possible preview version available next week

Just a closing note in case anyone else had this issue.  It has been resolved in 2019 Patch 5, I can have foolish amounts of tabs opened when closing/opening ASG-RD again.
Thank you!
