mstsc shadow
#1
Question
Hi,

Is it possible to shadow an RDP session using ASG 2019?
Basically do this but integrated to ASG RDP client: mstsc.exe /v:<server> /shadow:<ID> /control

I noticed an option to connect to console but that one doesn't shadow.

Yes - just query the sessions of a connection (via context menu => Refresh sessions) - then click on the session and in the context menu you can find "Shadow session"

I guess the same limitations apply? No integration, no fullscreen?

Yes it's just a call of mstsc.exe with the correct parameters

Hi,
I would like to do a shadow session but I had two problems:
- sometimes it didnt show the user session (also after click "Refresh sessions")

and second:
- if I could see the session, I didn't have the button "Shadow session"

Could you give me a hint whats wrong or what I could do to use RDP shadow session?

Kind regards,
Clemens

Your context menu on a listed session object should be displayed as you can see in my attachment - isn't it the same way?

That's the context menu of the connection - you can only shadow a user session - so just query your sessions - and if sessions are listed click on one of the sessions and check the context menu there again!

Select a connection object and connect - should be in the same AD as you are logged on (else you won't get the query results) - after connected - click the connection object again and select "Refresh sessions" in context menu - then your sessions should be displayed as new child nodes of your connection - choose the "session" object in Navigation and then you will find the "Shadow session" command in context menu

I've test it as you tell me - but it won't work.

With "the same AD" do you mean ActiveDirectory? I wont get the sessions...

Ok please use cmd.exe and try the following command

query user /server:%computername%

Replace the variable with your server name - if no sessions are listed we won't get them too

Here you can find docs from Microsoft how to use

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows...query-user

This work fine. I will get the sessions of the servers (tested with different machines).

In your screenshot are no creds specified - can you create some valid creds and assign them to the connection...

You can't assign the creds? Why? Did you add the role "Credentials" in Connection settings - then you should be able to assign the creds
