You are not allowed to start this external app
#1
When some of my users are trying to run an external app they get a wonderful message: "You are not allowed to start this external app". I thought I gave permissions to them but still it only allows admin users with all the rights to do so. Can you help?

The users seems not to have read access to the external app that you specified in a connection…

Please give your users "READ" access on Applications-Root-Node and by default this should be inherited to all sub objects

Can the users see the external app that you have configured in your connection? Can they start the app manually by double clicking the item?

They can see them. Do you mean under the External Application section? Or do you mean if I create a new app using this External application?

If you're talking about right-click start under External Apps this works.

I tried the same and it's working for me - just to be sure we configured the same here are my steps…

Create Ext.App. - notepad.exe - set permission "Everything allowed for test group"

Create Connection - set protocol to Ext.App. - add role "Ext.App." - set under Ext. App. "Notepad.exe" to be started - set permission on the connection "Read allowed for test group"

Logon with user from "TestGroup" - goto created connection and double click - Notepad.exe is starting...

Hi

This does work but when I create a new connection and set the ext. app as the protocol, this new connection does not work for normal users and gives the error "You are not allowed to start this external app"

I finally found why this happens, i needed to go to Ext.App properties and set my new Ext.App as the connection in Default Values. Now it works for all users.

Thanks, you put me on the right path.
