AD Synchronize
#1
Hi

We have some trouble to sync Server Objects from AD. The problem is that we have created folders for each customer and under customer folder we have created new folders for type of server.
like this: -EXP-domain
                  -Domain Controlles
                  -Print Servers
                  -file servers...
                  -etc...
When we try "Synchronize from AD" function, nothing happens unless we use "Synchronize Structure". The problem with that is that it imports folder structure from AD.
We don't want that because every customer has different AD structure.
We are missing a function called "Include Sub folders" or something similar

what we need is to keep folder structure in ASG as it is and then when we click Synchronize now from AD, it should check all sub folders for connections/servers and compare them against AD.
If there is mismatch from AD, ASG should create missing servers in root folder for costumer.

Also we have tried using "Group" in source field. That is also not working for us. We tried to use "Domain Computers" as group from AD, but nothing will synchronize.
We tried other groups also. same problem.

Maybe we are doing it all wrong and thats why it doesnt work?
if you have suggestions for have to do this correctly, we will appreciate very much to hear about it.

Which version do you use?

In newest version there is the option "Ignore destination structure" - that means your structure in ASGRD will be ignored

We are using 13.0.6625.1

i have testet that one also. I am getting successfully, but no new servers are created

I set the following options

Synchronize structure
Sync all objects in flat hierarchy
Ignore destination structure

Sync all => all objects are synced to the root folder - and afterwards I can create own folders, move objects into these folders and sync again

Thx for the tips DevOma

I know that works, but it ignores servers in sub folders so ASG creates them all again in root folder.

When I have imported servers first time and then moved them to correct sub folders, it should ignore those next time I use "synchronize from AD". ASG should only creat servers that are missing.
If I have a new server in AD that is not yet created in ASG, it should see the missmatch with AD and creat the new server only when I click "Synchronize from AD"

Hope I could explain it correctly, my English is not the best Smile

Yes I think I understand - but it is working for me - I delete some objects in ASGRD - and if I choose to sync again the objects are created again - of course these objects are created in root again - where else should it be done?!? It must be follow any rules and if "Sync all in flat hierarchy" is set all objects are created in the root folder - but you can also disable this option - then new objects should be created in the corresponding sub folder

Yes, thats works as you said.

The problem is that my hierarchy in ASG is not the same as I have in AD. I have manually created new hierarchy in ASG and we use the same hierarchy on all customer in ASG.

This is my scenario:

- customer A (root folder)
          - Domain cotrollers (subfolder)
                 - server 1 (server/connection object)
                 - server 2 (server/connection object)

          - Print servers (sub folder)
                 - printserver1 (server/connection object)
                 - printserver2 (server/connection object)

So let says I have created another server in AD called printserver3 that i want to import to ASG.

I use the option you wrote to me, and then ASG will create ALL server object again in root folder.

So, server 1, server 2, printserver1 and printserver2 and also printserver3 is created under root folder called Customer A.

What I want it to do is, read all my subfolders in customer OU, and gather object sid and compare against AD.
Then ASG should only create printserver3 and nothing else since the others are allready created and moved to sub folders.

That will also make automation jobs much easier. (server import with scheduled task)

I think there are only 2 options - you create several AD sync - so for each customer one sync folder - or you do it as described above and manually move newly created objects into your customer folder

I don't see any rule that make sense that we could also implement!?!

I found the problem.

In the beginning I have importet all servers with the option; Import.. -> and then Import from Active Directory for each customer.
After that I had imported all servers to customer root folder, I moved them to correct Sub folders. Then when I tried Active directory synchronize function, it fails.

I figured out that I have to use Active directory synchronize function from the beginning to make it work correctly.

When I only used Active Directory synchronizes function and moved the imported servers to correct subfolders and then used Synchronize now function again, it only created missing/new servers in root folder of customer. Like the way I want it to work.

So I have to re-import all servers again with active directory synchronize option for every customer and then move them to correct sub folders. After that the synchronize function will work correctly.
