ASGRD Session Hang on Exit (Microsoft Fix for Akamitechnologies Call)
#1
Well, finally we were successful in getting Microsoft to fix a bug in their MSTSC.exe code to address "session hanging" using ASGRD.

See details/background in this old thread:
  https://forum.visionapp.com/showthread.p...&pid=47505

Unfortunately this Microsoft fix (to remove calls to Microsoft/akamaitechnologies on session close, causing ASGRD to hang for 60 seconds) does not work in Windows 10 x64 1909.

It does work OK in Windows 10 x64 1809.

Win10-1809-RDP-FIX-KB4577069 -- works OK

  https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com...=KB4577069

Win10-1909-RDP-FIX-KB4577062 -- FAILED -- causes ASGRD to core dump
  https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com...=kb4577062

Turns out, ASGRD core dumps when starting the application after applying the fix for 1909 (KB4577062)

(See image attached)

They suggested we reach out to you as the developer of this application to see why ASGRD is core dumping when starting on a PC which has this 1909 fix.

Please reply with thoughts/suggestions.

Hi

I can remember this issue - is the mentioned fix a private fix for you or is it part of the official windows updates?

sysfer.dll seems to be a windows dll - I think it is referenced via any other dll - so we do not have control about that - and never heard this before - and the issue only appear after installing this fix for a specific windows version - I think they (MS) fixed it for a specific component but didn't test it anymore afterwards...

I don't know what we should do...

Yes the link above is public available download from Microsoft. We are running Windows 10 x64 1809 and Windows 10 x64 1909 and the 1909 is the environment which is failing with ASGRD. I would test 1909 OS with latest ASGRD and then layer the 1909 patch to see if ASGRD fails to start with same error we see. Microsoft supposedly could not repro the issue using the free version of ASGRD. We can core-dump ASGRD on multiple 1909 OS + patch environments easily. Fails every time.

free version is only limited by some functions - but that should be no difference in starting the application.

I tried to install the patch but it failed (could not be installed on my machines)

But even if I can install and reproduce the issue - the only thing I would get is the same dump as you already get?!? MS can analyze such dump files - but I don't think that we really can change anything!?! Perhaps they have "changed" something on the RDP client? But I can't reference components from such fixes (I have it not on my machines using regular Windows Updates)
