Overview + thumbnails refresh
#1
Hi,

I was previously using Microsoft RDC Manager then ASG RemoteDesktop 2012.
What was missing in 2012 was the overview thumbnail autorefresh capability found in RDC Manager.

I am now evaluating 30days the ASG Remote Desktop 2015.

I can see now some settings regarding the thumbnails :
- Polling interval to refresh thumbnails
- Thumbmail Size
Are these 2 options related to the thumbnails in the 'Overview' panel ?

If yes, I cannot figure out how to make them work as
- Thumbnail Size does not to apply changes (small/medium/large) even after closing/re-opening the app
- Refresh only work if I have the RDP window of desktop topmost with activity inside.

If I open 10 thumbnails with various automated GUI jobs within them, I would like to use the overview panel with thumbnails beeing updated automatically but I cannot make it work like this.

Is there a hidden option to have the overview panel having its thumbnails beeing refreshed by themselves for all RDP tabs opened even if only one is active (which is the case most of the time)

Regards,
Christophe.

Also, within the 'overview' tab, there is a 'Connections' menu with 'refresh thumbnails' entry in it, it should refresh the thumbnails but it does not.

I have v8.0.4819.0

The options for Thumbnails are in the product for many years :-)

The size should change after restarting the app...

And the refresh problem - yes we know - but we didn't have a solution for that - does RDC Manager really shows the current UI without the session has focus? The same result occurs when you hover over some applications in your taskbar - you can't see always the current UI...

I have just tested again, and I confirm, it works, thanks.

Yes the Microsoft RDC Manager does handle multiple RDP windows treeview with multiple panels and an overview when you click on the parent folder, and yes it does refresh in realtime all thumbnais even if you have no focus on them : in the overview mode, you have focus on the overview panel, then if you click on each thumbnail, you then get focus on the selected desktop.

You can download it to test it, just google 'microsoft RDC manager', it's free.

Your product offer more than RDC, but still missing this realtime thumbnails overview of out of focus connected desktops.

Christophe.

Btw,

It looks like we already spoke together about this 2 years ago :

Also a request from another user in 2011 :

RDC manager download link for your tests :

Any chance to have it working within ASG Remote Desktop in a short future ?

Thanks.

What is the progress on that ?
We also need this. That Feature doesn't make sense if you have to click through all tabs. Wink

RDC is not working in the same way - they are use the overview for hosting all remote sessions in "small controls" - when you want to switch to one session this view has to be changed and the "small control" is resized to full size... This allows real time session viewing - but I don't know if this is really the better solution...

We will add some small features regarding this issue with next version - planned for end of Q1 - it will not be realtime overview - but automatic "rotation" of all windows to collect necessary information...
