Application Crashes - Windows 8.1 x64
#1
Hi,
Ever since I've installed ASG RD 2015, I've experienced an uptick in application crashes. Each patch release I've noticed the same, and am currently running on the latest Patch 5.

I have noticed that it seems to happen most often after I restart a remote connection through the OS and the connection terminates, thus freezing / crashing ASG. Not every time the crash happens is when restarting though - but I get a crash about daily. Majority of my remote connections are running Windows Server 2012 R2. Not sure if this is part of the issue or not.

I've attached a screenshot from my task manager when the application freezes and goes not responding. As you can see memory usage is not very high, but when this happens CPU spikes to 10-15%, I'm assuming while it's attempting to recover. I only had 2 remaining connections open - so not an excessive amount.

I have also attached the report.wer that is generated from Windows Error Reporting.

The following are the two entries logged in the event viewer from MSFT, if it's of any use.

Event ID: 1002
Level: Error
Details:
The program ASGRD.exe version 8.0.4819.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

Any help on this issue would be appreciated. This is very frustrating when it happens and have multiple connections open. I never experienced this many crashes on 2012. Only crashes on 2012 were when I had an excessive amount of connections open and RAM usage had spiked due to that.

If there is anything else that I can provide to help narrow down the cause of this crash, I'd be happy to do so. We're running in database mode.

Thank you

It's always difficult to analyse crashes - because mostly the process is terminated by the ActiveX control (RDP) - do you have the latest version installed (RDP client)?

Yes, most current version of RDP is installed. My machine is fully patched with latest updates from MSFT.

Is there any debug build I can install that could do extra logging to try and track down the issue?

We have debug versions - but a crash is only producing some dump files - these files can only be analysed by some MS engineers

So you're saying the fact that your application crashes is an issue with Microsoft and that there's nothing you're able to do?

The problem is that the crash is caused inside the .Net-Framework - or in communication between .NET and the used ActiveX-control (in this case it's the Microsoft RDP client) - and we are not able to analyse dump files
