Central management credentials inheritance
#1
I'm looking for away to set Connection credentials on a central level.
We use integrated login to the Environment.

On the Connections/subfolder/credentials/default Value I want to set the value for Credentials to be " "Inherit Connections value setting"

That way I can use security groups to filter what the users see and they don't have to think about credentials on new objects.

As it work today, if I grant permissions to a subfolder to a security group the users have to manually add personal settings/credentials to be able to log on to a server in the new subfolder.

This should be inherited from my Central Environment settings.

I do not really understand your request...

By default the credential settings are set to "Use inherited values" - it is the middle button in the Properties dialog

Users can define own values and also inherit these values to all sub folders...

Thank you.
We retraced all the steps and the mistake we made in the Users enviroment was setting the users credentials in Personal Values, not Default values.
When using Personal Values, they are not Inherited when you add a subfolder by a security group.

When using Default Values it works the way I asked for.

But I discovered another thing instead.
If I, as an Administrator, sets Connections/Credentials/Default Value to my credentials and save, the Users local settings are removed.
see attachment.

As an Administrator, do I need to use the Personal Values instead of the Default Values?

You can move this post to the other forum since it's not a feature request anymore.

I try to explain...

Default Values - is only once per object (like folder or connection) - you can specify values that everybody can access

Inherited Values - will always inherit best match of data from parent objects - depends on user selection of parent objects - if user choose "Personal Values" on parent object, these values will be used - if user choose "Inherit" or "Default" on parent these values will be used... If all parents are set to "Inherit", Default from root node will be used

Personal values - User override default values with some personal changes - changes on default values will not have any effect on the personal values of users!!!

If user never select the options "Default / Inherit / Personal" there is a "best match algorithm" - if "personal values" are set, use personal - if Default values are set, use Default - else you Inherited values again!

Hope now it is clear and is working as you expect :-)

Thank you för the explanation, I think that my problem is how I, as an administrator, should set the connection values for my self.
As Adminstrator, am I locked down to use Personal values instead of Default Values?

trying to explain:
If the users add a credential for themself and then on Connections, set the default Value on credentials to their own credential. That credential is Inherited down on all connections/subfolders the user have access to. Even when the administrator later gives them access to a new connection/subfolder the credentials is inherited. PERFECT Smile

If the user set the credential as Personal then that credential is inherited to connections/subfolders that is available when the credential is set. I the user later gets access to a new connection/subfolder the credentials is NOT inherited. NOT GOOD Sad

But what for me as an administrator?
If the Administrator add a credential for himself and then on Connections, set the default Value on credentials to his own credential. Then that credential is Inherited down on all connections/subfolders the Administrator have access to, but the default value for the USERS is removed. BAD Sad

Everytime the Administrator do a change on his Default then the USERS will get their values removed.

The second issue I have to check - for the third: Administrator should use also "Personal Values" if he wants to assign new credentials for personal use - Default Values is "for all users"
