It is not possible to "convert" a tab into a fullscreen connection that uses the entire screen-area.
1) Rightclick a Connection tab and select Fullscreen
2) The connection is "moved" to its own fullscreen window with black borders because of the different screen-dimensions
3) To get "true" fullscreen (no black borders) click the Reconnect button on the toolbar
4) The connection reconnects as a tab instead of fullscreen
